I’ve really enjoyed Lulu Taylor’s previous 2 novels, so I’m very much looking forward to her third, Beautiful Creatures! It’s due out on 20th January 2011, and I think the red and pink cover is very eye-catching and pretty! Her books are always great escapist novels, so I can’t wait for this! Here’s the synopsis:
“Everyone has heard of the Beaufort twins, but few have ever seen them… On the eve of their 21st birthday, at one of the most lavish parties society has ever seen, Octavia and Flora Beaufort are launched into the world. For Octavia, it is one of the most thrilling nights of her life, an evening glittering with the promise of her future. But Flora shrinks from the limelight, fearful of what lies beyond the walls of her over-protective aunt’s house. As Octavia is swept into a whirlwind of lavish spending and fashionable society, she grasps eagerly at whatever she wants: clothes, houses, men… even a department store. But Flora yearns for security – and when she is rescued from harm by a kind stranger, she seems to have found the love and protection she craves. Prey to all kinds of dangers, the twins soon realise that without each other, they run the risk of losing everything. But is it already too late…?”

Harriet Evans’ latest book Love Always was originally due out this year, but has now been put back until 20th January 2011. It sounds like a great read and I really adore the cover which was released a couple of weeks ago. Here’s the synopsis:
Natasha Kapoor’s life is at a turning point. Leaving London for the magical Cornish coast to attend the funeral of her beloved grandmother, this trip will reunite her with her large and complicated family. As she and her family sort through her grandmother’s possessions and prepare to sell Summercove, the idyllic coastal home that has been in their family for decades, Natasha is given the long-lost diary of her aunt Cecily, who died in a tragic accident at the age of fifteen.
Returning to her home in London’s trendy Shoreditch, Natasha must get back to normality – to her job as a jewellery designer and to her soon-to-be ex-husband. But how can she forget the tragic tale of love, rivalry and heartbreak that emerged from the pages of Cecily’s diary? And will Cecily’s words, though written forty years ago, inspire Natasha to take a chance on love?

Chick Flick Tuesday highlights the best chick flicks in the movie world as well as bringing you news on upcoming chick flick releases as well as letting you all know about which chick lit books are being made into chick flick movies!
This week I’ve chosen a lovely, Christmas-y movie for our Chick Flick Tuesday.I watched Holiday in Handcuffs last Christmas and I thought it was a lovely, sweet movie. It was only a TV movie, shown on ABC Family in America, but you can purchase a DVD copy if you wish! The fact Melissa Joan Hart stars made it all the more perfect for me as I loved her as Sabrina and she’s fantastic in this! Plus there’s a sequel in the works, hurray!
Unlucky in life and love, quirky waitress Trudie (Melissa Joan Hart) takes the holidays — and the law — into her own hands. Unable to brave Christmas with her family as a single woman, Trudie kidnaps restaurant customer David Martin (Mario Lopez) and introduces him to her family as her boyfriend. Unable to escape the family vacation house, David agrees to play along until the police arrive. In the meantime, however, David ponders his own romantic life, and questions if he is falling in love with Trudie despite the unlikely circumstances.

Deborah Wright’s latest book Swimming With Dolphins has just been released, and I absolutely loved it - it’s the perfect book to read to escape these cold winter evenings, and such an enjoyable story! Deborah kindly said she would write us an author article about her new book, so here it is! Enjoy, and our thanks go to Deborah for taking the time to write this for us!
“My latest book, ‘Swimming With Dolphins’ was originally called ‘Ten Things to Do Before I live’. The novel is about a workaholic called Julia who gets made redundant from her city job during the credit crunch. Since she has spent her twenties being married to her job and trapped in an office, she decides to the last of her money to travel the world, have adventures and do all the things she’s always longed to do.
I love travelling – learning new languages, seeing new places, meeting new people. Some of Julia’s adventures are based on real experiences. For example, I went to Japan 2 years ago with Kate Williams, a fellow writer and dear friend, and so many of Julia’s adventures in Tokoyo were based on our trip – from eating Green Tea Haagen Dazs ice cream to visiting Mount Fuji to walking through Shinjuku’s red light district and looking up into a hotel room where I spotted two Japanese businessmen fondling plastic dolls! I have also visited Venice, which had to go in the book for its sheer beauty,
and the unfortunate love affair she has with an Italian is an exaggerated fictionalisation of something I suffered. Other parts of the book are based on places I’d love to go to, so the research was hugely enjoyable. When she goes to Sicily and climbs Mt Etna, I watched videos on youtube of Etna erupting, spraying glorious red showers into the sky. The crazy Las Vegas chapter was great fun to write, but it’s another place I’ve not yet been to – so I had to call up my brother and ask him for anecdotes.
When I handed in the book to my editor, she felt it needed a stronger title. We brainstormed for months – until she had a brilliant flash of inspiration and thought up ‘Swimming With Dolphins’. This experience is the finale adventure in the book. It’s also deeply romantic, with Julia finding fulfilment in her love life on the island of Kauai. Swimming with dolphins is something I’ve always longed to do – and I felt so excited writing about it that it has made me even more hungry to make this dream a reality .”
Thanks so much, Deborah!

Maggie Storm is really fed up her life. Her husband Dave only ever speaks to her when he wants a cup of tea or the sitting room to be hoovered, and her son Dean isn’t the model child either. She works as a cleaner for families who make her feel worthless, and she doesn’t know why she puts up with it. When she meets Daryl by chance at a neighbour’s house, Maggie gets a glimpse of what it could be like to be loved properly, but something is holding her back. Maggie made a New Year’s Resolution to hold back on what she wants and what she thinks, and she doesn’t want to break it just yet.
Decorator Ella Moore gets a commission at Ethan and Francesca’s home, and is sick of being treated like a lacky by Francesca. Ethan on the other hand is more than affection to Ella, and she doesn’t feel entirely happy about it. She’s recently got out of a relationship with Lawrence and his 2 children, so she isn’t ready to dive into anything new just yet. Are either Ella or Maggie ever going to pursue the happiness that both of them deserve? Or are the promises they’ve made themselves too hard to break?

This book was brought to my attention by Cathy Kelly when she posted it on Facebook last week, and I thought it was such a good idea, especially at this time of year I wanted to bring it to your attention. In aid of The Jack & Jill Foundation, a selection of Irish personalities have written some short stories based around the idea of Christmas. Authors include Cathy Kelly, Maeve Binchy, Niall Quinn and Eddie Hobbs. So if you fancy helping a charity and having a bit of festive read, look out for a copy of There’s No Place Like Home At Christmas.
“In aid of The Jack & Jill Foundation. A collection of new Christmas stories written by well known Irish personalities including Maeve Binchy, Niall Quinn, Cathy Kelly, Eddie Hobbs, Patrick Hickey and Judi Curtin. Describing the true meaning of Christmas, this collection of nearly 30 stories is varied and colourful and will warm the very cockles of your heart. This book will help raise funds for The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, who provide home nursing care and respite to the families of precious children with brain damage who require intensive care in the place they call home. The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation (www.jackandjill.ie) was set up in 1997 by Jonathan Irwin and his wife MaryAnn O’Brien (MD of Lily O’Brien’s) to help young children in Ireland who are born with or develop brain damage and who suffer severe intellectual and physical developmental delay as a result. They decided to set up Jack & Jill based on their own experience with their son Jack whose short life showed them the ideal way in which little children can be nursed at home. From their experience evolved the Jack & Jill model of home nursing and respite care that supports 320 families in Ireland today and has helped over 1,200 children and their families since 1997.”
