Book News: A Million Little Mistakes by Heather McElhatton

Posted on June 11th, 2010 by Leah

Heather McElhatton’s third book - but only her second to be released in the UK - A Million Little Mistakes is due out on 2nd September 2010 and sounds like great fun. It seems as if it’s going to follow the way her first book went, which means you get to pick your own destiny. Now, I’ve never read a book like that myself but I DO love the sound of it, so I’ll be looking out for it!

There’s one beginning and a multitude of different endings; at the end of each chapter you must make a choice which will alter the course of your life story. Your story starts when you win 22 million dollars in the lottery. After that, it’s in your hands: depending on the decisions you make, you could end up being kidnapped my Somalian pirates, becoming a Vegas show girl, joining a polygamist sect in Salt Lake city or living out your days with a tribe in the Indonesian rainforest.

Book News: Separate Beds by Elizabeth Buchan

Posted on June 11th, 2010 by Chloe

Elizabeth Buchan is back on the 2nd September with her new book Separate Beds. I’ve read a few of Elizabeth’s old books which were quite good, so I might look out for this one when it hits the shops. I’m really not keen on the cover though, it’s very bland and wouldn’t inspire me to pick it up off the shelf! Here’s the synopsis:

“Annie and Tom’s marriage is in mid-life crisis. They seem to have everything – a lovely home, rewarding jobs and three healthy grown-up children - but, beneath the surface, all is not well. Beneath the surface lies a secret guilt which ensures that whilst they live under the same roof, they sleep in separate beds. Then, as recession strikes, Tom comes home one evening and drops a bombshell that threatens to destroy everything they have left. Will he and Annie be able to leave the past behind and weather this storm together? Or will it push them further apart? Annie is about to discover that out of disaster springs the faint rays of hope. As her family rallies together, for the first time in years, her home is filled with people, conversation, tears - and laughter. And, little by little, Annie and Tom start to open up to one another about the terrible, painful truth they have lived with all these years. Soon a new, unexpected future starts to take shape as Annie and Tom are offered a second chance at happiness. But will they take it?”

Chick Lit Classics: Miranda’s Big Mistake

Posted on June 10th, 2010 by Leah

Chick Lit Classics is a new feature on Chick Lit Reviews where we highlight the books we feel are classics of the chick lit genre. Feel free to discuss our choices in the comments section!

This week I’ve chosen one of Jill Mansell’s many novels as our Classic pick. I’ve read the majority of Jill’s books and I enjoy them time and time again. One that I still remember even now, even though I haven’t read it in a few years is Miranda’s Big Mistake. I thought it was a fab read and if you haven’t read it, you really must. It may be a decade old (it was originally released in 2000) but it definitely stands the test of time. It’s funny and it’s even sad but, above all, it’s romantic!

Miranda is thrilled when she meets Greg at a cocktail party. He’s gorgeous, he’s funny - and he’s very keen. Just what a girl needs to put some sparkle in her life. Heavens, he’s practically perfect! Greg likes Miranda a lot. She’s young, she’s pretty, and she never talks about babies. Of course he hasn’t told her everything about himself - even the sweetest girls can be a bit funny about a man who’s just left his newly pregnant wife. But there’s no way she’s going to find out - or is there? Luckily for Miranda men are like buses - you don’t see any for ages then three come along at once. She just needs to catch the right one...

Book Cover: A Season To Remember by Sheila O’Flanangan

Posted on June 10th, 2010 by Leah

I’m a huge fan of Sheila O’Flanagan so when I noticed she was to have two books published in 2010, I was thrilled. As well as having her regular book out - Stand By Me - Sheila is also publishing another short story collection called A Season To Remember. It’s out on 14th October 2010 and is her third short story collection following Destinations and Connections. I can’t wait for this new collection and I adore the cover, it’s beautiful!

An enchanting collection of warm, poignant and Christmas-themed stories from the Sunday Times bestselling author. In this wonderful collection of interlinked short stories Sheila O’Flanagan brings her own trademark sparkle to Christmas – a time when friends, families and lovers traditionally come together and when every person is hoping their wishes will come true…

Posted on June 9th, 2010 by Leah

Carmen and Beth are best friends who are sick of the way their life has been lately. Carmen has only just broken free from a bad relationship and Beth is realising that her dream of becoming a famous dancer is ebbing away slowly.

“Izzy Mistry loves her job planning weddings in Majorca but she wasn’t expecting any proposals herself. And certainly not from two different men in one night! So now she’s chosen the one she wants – old flame Harrisson – and fallen madly in love with a rustic house in the mountains, Izzy’s life is looking a lot more romantic.

But as the happy couple wrestle with renovations and struggle to settle in to village life, suddenly everything seems a little less rosy. Izzy’s starting to feel the heat. But is this normal pre-wedding nerves… or is she about to make a massive mistake?”
