Book News: The Mistress by Martine McCutcheon

Posted on Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Chloe

British actress and singer Martine McCutcheon isn’t content with her already successful career - she’s now branching out into writing books as well! Her debut novel The Mistress has been picked up by PanMacmillan Books and is set for release on 6th November of this year. Here’s the synopsis taken from Amazon:

“Mandy is turning 30 and has a lot of love to give, but that special person has so far eluded her. Then, at her birthday party with close friends at the Wolseley, Cupid strikes from across a crowded room. It’s love at first sight, but Jake, the man she’s fallen for, is happily married. Mandy is determined to stick to her principles and not enter into such dangerous territory, but her resistance is to prove futile. But can she make it as a mistress? Can it work for someone to love two people? A romance with a twist, “The Mistress”, has an unusual, modern take on what women want.”

It’s part of a trilogy about strong women, and the title of the second book has already been released; The Actress. It’ll be interesting to see what Martine’s writing style is like, but I am sure it will be as successful as the other areas of her career!

Posted on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 by Leah

Transworld has bought the rights to three new novels from ex-Heat deputy editor Jo Carnegie. Editorial director Sarah Turner acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Amanda Preston at Luigi Bonomi Associates.

The first in the deal - Carnegie’s third novel - will be called Role Play and is due to be published in May 2010. The new books will be part of the Churchminster series, centred around life in the village. Carnegie’s her second novel, Naked Truths, is due to be published in paperback by Corgi in October. She was deputy editor at Heat magazine for five years and has also worked at Glamour and More magazine. From the bookseller.melissahillpleaseforgiveme

Hodder & Stoughton has bought the rights for four new novels by chick-lit author Melissa Hill, who moved over to the publisher in 2008.

Sara Kinsella, senior editor, acquired British Commonwealth rights from Sheila Crowley, literary agent at Curtis Brown.

Title and publication details of the new books in the deal are yet to be finalised, but Hodder will publish one book a year. Please Forgive Me will be published in October. From the bookseller.
