Why we like/dislike it: When Ronni Cooper’s debut novel Rock Chicks came out last year it had a stunning, totally stunning cover. But for her new novel, Manhattan, her publishers seem to have taken a massive step backwards. I can see what they’re trying to do with super-imposing Manhattan onto the shoes but it just looks tacky especially with the pink soles. I don’t know why they didn’t make the title ‘Manhattan’ out of Manhattan, that would have looked amazing but for me this cover doesn’t work and I wouldn’t pick it up because it’s ugly. And am I the only one who is sick to the back teeth of high heeled shoes on book covers?

Overall mark out of 10:
Would we buy this book based on its cover? No!

Do Judge A Book By Its Cover is a new feature on Chick Lit Reviews, where we take a look at some of the best (and worst) Chick Lit covers in existence. No synopsis, no hint of the story, just plain old book cover judging, with marks out of 10!

It looks very 80s, with the shoes and that colour scheme. It looks like a Jackie Collins book.

I love the cover! I think it’s quite eye catching and I like how they’ve imposed the skyline onto the shoes. I can’t say that I’d read the book on the basis of the cover, but I would definitely pick it up to find out what it was about!

Very ugly cover if you ask me. I can see what they were trying to do, but it looks like they failed and then just could not be bothered anymore.

michelle

bit of a boring cover to this nowhere near as edgy as the last book

I kinda love it!

I have to say I love it too, total opposite of the last book but looks very classy - as another commentor says, very Jackie Collins. I’d definitely read this based on the cover.

Part of me wonders if seeing it on an actual book will make a difference. The skyline on the shoes kind of just looks like sequins, but I’m thinking it might be different on a book cover. That being said…I still wouldn’t pick it up based on the cover. But, I’m one of those girls that isn’t that into shoes.

I really love this cover. It’s bonkbuster magic! Also I think that while covers are there to entice you in, surely you wouldn’t decide whether to buy it PURELY based on the cover? You’d at least read the back blurb!
