    Author Interview: Olivia Ryan

Posted on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 by Leah

sheila nortonOlivia Ryan is the author of three novels all telling “Tales From”: Tales From a Hen Weekend, Tales From A Wedding Day and Tales From A Honeymoon Hotel. The books don’t follow each other as Olivia explains below. I haven’t read any of the three but I think they all sound fab. Olivia also writes under her real name of Sheila Norton and has had 5 books published under her Sheila name.

    1. Describe your latest novel in a sentence.

Three very different couples meet on their honeymoon on a Croatian island - but it soon becomes apparent that they all have difficulties to overcome in their relationships.

    2. Will there be a fourth “Tales from…” book? They all sound like fab reads!

Thank you! No - the series was marketed as a ‘trilogy’ (even though the books are all separate stories, with different characters), because they make up a nice set as a hen weekend story, a wedding story and a honeymoon story. We felt it would be overdoing it somewhat to carry on with a pregnancy story or a divorce story!

Book News: The Monday Night Cooking Club by Erica Bauermeister

Posted on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 by Leah

erica bauermeister the monday nightcooking schoolErica Bauermeister‘s fiction debut The Monday Night Cooking Club will be released on 25th February 2010 and sounds like a fantastic read. It’ll be another to go onto my Amazon wishlist. I also love the cover for it. Here’s the synopsis for it:

On Monday nights eight people gather in Lillian’s restaurant for a cooking class. There’s Claire, who can barely remember the last time she went out without her two kids; bachelor Ian, who exists on Chinese takeaways; Chloe, the distracted waitress who is forever dropping things; Carl and Helen, getting past a betrayal in their marriage; and Tom, mourning the tragic loss of his wife.

Plus Lillian, who taught herself to cook to reach out to her unhappy mother. From delicious feasts to dining disasters, will the cooks find what they are looking for? And among the utensils and mouth-watering ingredients, will some of them even fall in love? The Monday Night Cooking School is a gorgeous novel about possibilities and the magic of food.

Book News: Katy Carter Wants A Hero by Ruth Saberton

Posted on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 by Leah

ruth saberton katy carter wants a heroRuth Saberton‘s debut novel under her own name Katy Carter Wants A Hero is due out on the 1st April 2010 published by Orion and sounds like a hilarious read, I for one will be looking out for it. Ruth also writes under the name Jessica Fox for Little Black Dress who are publishing her The Hen Night Prophecies Series. The synopsis for Katy Carter Wants A Hero reads:

Katy Carter knows she’s no domestic goddess: she’s scatterbrained, she needs a fire extinguisher at the ready when she’s cooking, and she daily falls off the diet wagon. But that doesn’t stop her fantasising about a hero to call her own. And Katy thinks she’s found him in fiance James, a charming, high-flying city banker.

So why, then, does Katy find herself scribbling steamy historical romances every spare moment she gets, and daydreaming about becoming a published author when she ought to be paying attention in staff meetings? As her wedding day looms, Katy determines to become a wife James can be proud of, and employs the help of her best friend Oliver to impress his colleagues and his family.

But despite best laid plans, the pair set off a hilarious train of events that leads Katy on a crazy journey through celebrity, chaos, makeovers and, finally, into the arms of her hero…

Book Review: Expecting Emily by Clare Dowling

Posted on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 by Chloe

clare dowling expecting emilyThe cover of Expecting Emily had a quote by Cathy Kelly saying the novel was “Very funny and original” and I thought that was a good sign since I very much enjoy reading Cathy Kelly.

The book started introducing us to the main character, a heavily pregnant Emily Collins.

The first scenes in the book take place in an ante-natal ward of a hospital in Cork so we know straight away Emily is pregnant, and this is what the whole book is centred around.

Book News: Little Black Everything by Alex Coleman

Posted on Monday, October 19th, 2009 by Leah

alex coleman little black everythingAlex Coleman‘s second novel, following The Bright Side which sounds fab, is due out on the 29th October and will be called Little Black Everything. It sounds like an interesting read and one to keep our eyes peeled for!

Holly Christmas is a twenty-eight year old teacher who shares a small house in Dublin with her cat, Claude. She has always seen herself as a refreshingly honest individual who doesn’t suffer fools gladly. When her current boyfriend tells her that it’s over between them, he goes to some lengths to point out that the fault is entirely hers.

Holly tries to laugh it off, but when she gets back to her lonely little house, she begins to think … She’s heard this sort of thing from men before. Where she sees refreshing honesty, they tend to see shocking bluntness. Could this be the real reason why her love life is such a disaster? When the school term begins, Holly’s finds that she has a new colleague, James. He’s a relentlessly cheerful, affable people-person. In short, he’s everything that Holly is not. At first, she is merely intrigued by him. How does he do it? But intrigue quickly turns to attraction. And problems …
