Author Interview: Katie Fforde
Following on from Katie being Author of the Week, here we have Katie’s Author Interview. If you haven’t heard of Katie Fforde, she is the author of 15 novels, the latest is Love Letters out in June, and is a favourite here at chicklitreviews. If you want to try one of her books I suggest you try Paradise Fields, Restoring Grace or The Rose Revived but all of hers are a great read.
1. Describe your latest novel in a sentence.
Love Letters (out in June) is about a girl who sets up a literary festival.
2. What, if anything, are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a book with a transatlantic theme. I’m finding it quite hard!
3. Where do you get your book ideas?
I get my ideas from anywhere - small ads in magazines, tv. programmes, chance conversations, the air..
4. Are you planning any sequels to any of your novels or do you prefer stand-alone novels?
I’m not planning any sequels but the house that appears in Wedding Season also appears in Love Letters and it might turn up again
5. What are you currently reading/who are some of your favourite authors?
Currently reading a wonderful book called Carry Me Home by Terri Wiltshire. (Macmillan). I met Terri at the first writing course I ever gave and told her she’d do it, and she has! Favourite authors include Judy Astley, Trisha Ashley, Kate Harrison, Jill Mansell, Kate Lace, Adele Parks, too numerous to mention really.
6. Are any of your characters like you in anyway?
All my heroines have a bit of me in them, even my current one who is young and has long legs! I write from one viewpoint which means I’m in her head the whole time. I think it would be hard to do this if we didn’t have lots in common.
7. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
My advise to aspiring writers is to join the Romantic Novelists Association (google it!) and persevere. The first will give much needed support and the second will get you there if you have it in you. It took me eight years, it takes some writers even longer! (Some clever clogg’s get it right first time. Poo!)
Thank you for the interview Katie!
