Book Review: House Rules by Jodi Picoult

Posted on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 by Leah

Jacob Hunt is good at many things, he is able to remember a film word for word after the first watch, he’s able to memorize a book after one simple glance and he’s probably the most organised teenager in the world.

However Jacob is unable to look anybody in the eye and the colour orange sends him into tantrums rarely seen outside of young children which are all hallmarks of Jacob’s condition; Jacob Hunt has Aspergers. When Jacob’s social studies teacher Jess is found dead, all of the signs point to Jacob and the fact his Aspergers means he can’t look anybody in the eye and the police begin to believe Jacob had something to do with it.

Jacob’s mother, Emma, then has to ask herself: is her son capable of murder?

Book Review: Love Match by Amy Bates

Posted on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 by Danielle

Meet Abbie Arden, a quirky young woman who at last realizes her life’s passion: the written word. Abbie, fledgling editorial assistant, is assigned to the American Open, a tennis tournament held each August, where, among other things, she must interview Max Tadeo, a gorgeous, Spanish, professional tennis player (poor Abbie has a fetish for accents), and, well… Max is a tad unusual himself. Abbie encounters a few problems on her mission to become “superjournalist”: she thinks tennis is for people who enjoy chasing green balls (boring!); she has sworn off all men (even sexy Spaniards); and last but not least, Abbie wants “real” stories, not tennis fluff! Within the pages of Love Match, a sense of belonging envelops Abbie out of the blue, new friendships develop and investigative reporting takes a life-threatening twist. Love Match follows along as the neurotic but lovable heroine ultimately has to choose to live for love or for fear.

Book Review: Hard To Get by Jessica Fox

Posted on Friday, May 14th, 2010 by Chloe

Charlotte Sinclair is getting on with her life when fate throws her a curveball courtesy of a fortune teller she meets at a friend’s hen party. The psychic tells her “Love comes through hope alone”, and while Charlotte is pretty cynical, a tiny part of her hopes that it might be true. She’s forced to work every day with her ex-husband Richard and his new partner Suzie, but she won’t let on how much seeing him every day gets to her. The pair are sent on a work trip to Yorkshire (much to Suzie’s chagrin!) and there they meet 2 charities vying for the council’s art funding, and consequently Charlotte finds herself getting pretty close to both Heath and Paul. However, she’s sure no man out there is honest and manages to find a fault in both of them. But is Charlotte pushing away a potential love by being so cynical? Is love really so hard to get?

Posted on Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 by Leah

Back when she was a teenager, Claire Cooper thought she had her life mapped out: she’d have a fantastic job as a corporate lawyer, she’d still be best friends with Frankie and, most importantly, she’d be married to Andy Pailes.

Book Review: The Finishing Touches by Hester Browne

Posted on Monday, May 10th, 2010 by Chloe

Every girl should know what the finishing touches are.

That dash of gloss on the cheekbones to lift your complexion.
High heels for poise, and a luscious lipstick for the perfect pout.
It’s the spritz of perfume on the pulse points and the…
….ability to stand on your own two feet?

When 21st century girl Betsy is called in to rescue an exclusive finishing school from financial ruin, she knows she must change the school drastically, if it’s ever to survive. So it’s out with debutante decorum and in with modern manners and man-management. But before she can teach the girls how to walk in high heels, Betsy may just have to remember how to wear them herself. With the added bonus that her gorgeous friend Jamie and the surprisingly hunky bursar Mark both seem to rather approve of her new stilettos…
