New In 2010

2009 has been pretty successful for the site but we want to be the best chick lit review site ever and we’re always coming up with new ideas. Here are a few ideas we’ll be trying in 2010:

What It Takes To Become A Published Author
We’ll be posting 12 posts, one a month, from a fantastic top secret author on what it took to become a published author. I’ve read one of their pieces and it’s going to be a fab series. We’re also hoping to get some guest posts from other authors telling us how their books were made into books.

Interviews With Those Working In The Book Industry
One of my favourite ideas over the past month was to interview multiple publicists/editors/whoever for your reading pleasure so you can see just how much work goes into making a book publishable. We also plan to re-interview all of authors and catch up with them and see what’s happened in the last year.

Writing Competition
This new feature is pending people sending their writing in and if it was anything like our short story fiasco, I’ll be gutted. We want your stories - be it a chick lit book, a YA (young adult) book or a women’s fiction book, we want to read it. The book doesn’t have to be finished but it needs at least 5 chapters. We can’t promise a publishing deal but people working in fiction do visit our site so who knows what will happen? Send your works to our usual email address: [email protected]

Interview With The Editors
We’ll be looking for someone to interview us. Kind of turning the tables on us and have us answering your questions. If you’re interested in being Chloe and I’s interviewer, leave a comment!

Sophie Kinsella Week
In September we will have a week dedicated to the fantasticness that is Sophie Kinsella. Every single one of her books will be reviewed and we’ll (hopefully) be chatting to one of her biggest fans if she agrees. I’m hoping to also have a few surprises for that week also so stay tuned!

Ratings Change?
Currently we rate all our reviews between 1-5/5 but were thinking about changing our system to 1-10/10. It would take a while to re-think our previous ratings but it could easily be done. However - as always - we want to know what our readers think. So let us know your opinions and then Chloe and I will discuss the idea before deciding for sure!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

merry_christmas-1 The festive season is upon us now, and it’s time for Leah and I to take a little Christmas break from Chicklitreviews.com! We’ll away from Tuesday 22nd December until Monday January 4th 2010 when we’ll return with plenty more news and reviews! There’s going to be lots more happening here in the New Year, so look out for some new features and ideas from us.

We would like to thank everybody who has supported us in 2009, from the readers that visit us everyday, to the publishers who have sent us many fabulous books for review.We hope you’ve enjoyed the site as much as we have enjoyed running it.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and a Happy New Year for 2010, and see you back in January!

Zoe Barnes Passes Away

BEST-selling “chick lit” author Zoe Barnes took her own life while on holiday on the Isle of Man, it was revealed yesterday.

The popular author, whose real name was Susan Morgan but wrote under the pen names of Zoe Barnes and Sue Dyson, died after taking an overdose of prescription drugs.

She was found dead in her room at the Falcon’s Nest Hotel in Port Erin at the end of October. A pioneer of the chick lit genre, which addresses the issues of modern women, often humorously, Ms Barnes, aged 52, wrote 45 novels.

They included Wedding Belles, Just Married and Return To Sender. An inquest was told the author, from Cheltenham, suffered severe pain from auto-immune disorders which led to depression.

That is so sad and our thoughts and prayers go out to Zoe’s family. May she Rest in Peace.

Have Your Name Immortalised In Print by…

books I got a newsletter today from Adele Parks which mentioned you can bid for a chance to appear in Adele’s next novel! I duly clicked on the link to see what the whole thing was about and I felt I needed to mention it. It’s a charity auction held by the Financial Times and Quintessentially in aid of Room To Read and you can bid on items, on EBay, to help raise money for the charity.

Some of the things you can bid for include: Having your name immortalised in print by Adele Parks, Kate Long, Jill Mansell, Jane Fallon, Sue Mongredien (Lucy Diamond), Lisa Jewell, Katie Fforde and Mike Gayle. There are lots of other bids so head on over to Quintessentially to see them all!

The auction is open until November 30th so get clicking.

Internet Explorer Issues

Chloe brought to my attention tonight the fact that in Internet Explorer the site displays two headers, one underneath the original. I’ve been through our CSS/coding and cannot find anything out of the ordinary so as far as I’m concerned the fault lies with Internet Explorer.

The issue is easily fixed if you click the “Compatibility” button next to your address bar. You could also, of course, switch browsers. I use Mozilla Firefox and the site works perfectly fine. Internet Explorer is a pile of useless junk and keeps getting worse as Microsoft try to make it better.

I apologise for the disruption and if any HTML-wiz knows how to fix the problem, do let us know.

You may also experience issues in Firefox with the home page. This is my fault. I’m messing around with the coding, trying to add images and things. Hopefully all will be fine by tomorrow afternoon.
