How to handle nuisance or harassing VOIP calls

Nuisance VOIP calls aren’t all that common- yet. The fact is that they can be unpleasant and annoying. There are ways of dealing with these pests.

To trace a VOIP call

  1. Note the time and date of the call. This is evidence which can be used by the provider to find the caller.
  2. If you have a caller ID function, check it. You may have the number on the screen.
  3. Dial *69 (US number. Check local national options) to get information about the last call.
  4. Your phone company may or may not be able to track down the caller, depending on how the VOIP call was made.
  5. Your phone bill, at last, has a good use! It should show any information related to the unwanted VOIP call.
  6. Police may be able to help out, and your information is going to help them find your nuisance caller.

Note: Harassment may be an offence in some jurisdictions. You may well have some way of legal redress.

Above all- Don’t worry, get busy when you get a nuisance call! There’s a lot you can do about it!
