The serpentine belt is the faithful belt that drives your air con, your water pump, your super charger and your power steering pump. It’s big, it takes a lot of wear, and although it’s tough, it does need maintenance, sooner or later.
The problem is that if you do it yourself, you’re in for a steep learning curve in how the belt is fitted and handling removal and replacement. The belt is modified according to car model, obviously. It’s also a mechanical system, and it’s a heavy duty belt. Threading it through the various systems isn’t a job for the faint hearted, or the ignorant.
This is not a job you want to get wrong. You can sabotage some systems very effectively. Your best bet, all round, is to get a mobile mechanic to do the job for you. Watch how it’s done, though. This is the job you wanted to do yourself?
