The standard theory is that the film industry has been effectively undermined by the internet, film downloads and bit torrents. That turns out to be a simplistic view of the dynamics of modern media.
The film industry is now using social media marketing methods to both promote and manage its products. Cloud computing is providing a major cost-saving option for handling physical products. Social media is essentially acting as a promoter of films and other materials.
Not too surprising. Social media is “direct marketing” any way you look at it. The film industry may have saved its own skin by using these options. Cost reduction makes film production a lot more viable. The bottom line seems to be creating a much better industry dynamic in a very money-hungry environment.
