Hybrids vs. regular cars- Performance vs. personal values?

Ask any auto professional, like a mobile mechanic- Hybrid cars are as much a cultural statement as a different technology. They’re still going through technological development, too, so the big issue for hybrids is performance.

The different hybrids blur the picture, too. Performance varies from hybrid to hybrid. Folklore claims hybrids are slower than conventional cars, but in practice they’re roughly similar. (Bear in mind that the low powered suburban taxis aren’t exactly grunt machines, either.)

Where the hybrids do deliver is lower fuel consumption. That’s a saving, and if some claims for fuel efficiency are debatable, it’s a matter of degree.

The bottom line is that hybrids are a new class of vehicle, and they’re also a different culture in progress. Time will tell if performance outweighs personal values.
