Christmas flowers are a bit more complex than they look! The actual meanings and uses of Christmas flowers are ancient, and they’re charming stories.
Christmas cactus- Dating from the time of exploring the New World, Christmas cactus is thought to have become symbolic because it flowers at Christmas time. Perhaps not the Christmas tree as we know it, but a touch of beauty for the season for the pioneers.
Rosemary- Rosemary is a very old plant. It’s said that Jesus’ baby clothes were dried on a rosemary bush, and it’s also a beautiful fragrance, ideal to go with the Christmas festivities.
Holly- Holly is the original Christmas red and green combination, the red berries and deep green leaves are the symbols of Christmas décor.
Mistletoe- Mistletoe, in fact, is from Celtic history. The mistletoe is the sacred plant of the Druids, so special that it was cut with a golden blade. Now, it’s the reason to kiss under the mistletoe. Still valuable, even now!
