If you’ve ever done an interstate move, you’ll remember grimly what a learning curve it was, particularly if you had almost no information when you moved. There’s a way to avoid hitting the big potholes on the road to your new home, using a checklist method to avoid the heavy bumps.
Interstate removalists- These very competent firms are well equipped to help with everything from scheduling to packing. They’re a reservoir of tips and services.
Check the car! You’re going to be on the road with deadlines for getting from A to B. Make sure your car’s in good shape.
Pets- Pets need to be well looked after in a big, disorienting move. Get advice from the vet or SPCA/RSPCA about travel stress and health.
Essentials- Create a good, easily accessible place to store all the essentials of daily life, any medicines, etc. (This also makes sure they don’t get “packed into oblivion!”)
Documentation- Make sure you have your ID, papers and any other working docs handy and secure. They should be somewhere they can’t get lost.
Sanity- Be patient! These moves do take time. You’ll only stress yourself out if you’re not!
