About
Pretty Little Young Adult Books began in April 2010 to post about new and upcoming Young Adult releases as well as reviewing young adult books and hosting competitions, author interviews and more. It was partly inspired by the fantastic Chicklish and I wanted to have my own website for fans of the teen genre to review books without having to have their own blog.
If you would like to become part of the team, please send an email to [email protected] along with a sample of a review you’ve written. You don’t have to be of a certain age and you certainly don’t have to be a professional reviewer, you just have to be honest in your reviews.
Our Team
The Pretty Little Young Adult Books team comprises of a mixture of teenagers and adults, here is some more info on our team. If you’d like to become part of PLYAB, send us an email to [email protected].
Katie
Katie is a big reader who loves God and cross-stitch. She is writing her dissertation for her Masters degree in Contemporary History and has a BA degree in history. She got married last year and loves it! A Brightonian, she loves the sea and the sun, and reading on the stony beach!
Nicole
Nicole works in children’s publishing in New York City. Her imprint’s list includes innovative and fun formats for very young readers as well as comprehensive non-fiction for ages 3-9. (But she won’t tell you exactly what her imprint is, because that would be cheating!) Nicole also reads and evaluates YA and Teen manuscripts for other US publishers and believes she knows what she’s talking about. (She can at least get her 7, 11, and 18 year old cousins to read and love what she tells them to!) She blogs at Reading. Writing. Publishing. A Blog. (url www.hemingwayheroine.blogspot.com). Oh, and if you ever meet her, ask her what book she’s inevitably carrying in her purse.
Kate
I’m from Colchester, Essex but I am currently a student at the University of East Anglia, Norwich studying American and English Literature and am in my second year. I go abroad for my next university year to both Massachusetts, America and Melbourne Australia. I co-run the children’s section at Waterstone’s Castle Street in Norwich and have worked for Waterstone’s altogether nearly three years now. All of this has massively affected my reading. I switch from classics such as “The Grapes of Wrath” by Steinbeck to the most current “Beast Quest”. I will read almost anything I can get my hands on and working in a bookshop certainly helps in providing enough recommendations and new novels to keep me going! Why do I like teen novels in particular? I think that within this section you will find some of the funniest, most realistic and brilliant novels you could ever wish to come across, it perfectly bridges the gap between the “children” and “adult” fiction.
Hanna
Hanna C. Howard lives and writes in Tulsa, Oklahoma. If she isn’t pounding out stories and guzzling black coffee, she can usually be found staring dreamily off into space, selling flowers at her local nursery, or walking her cross-eyed, speckled Muse-dog, Ophelia. Her short stories have been published in Knowonder! Magazine, Spaceports & Spidersilk, and forthcoming in YARN; and she writes regularly for Examiner.com on the subject of YA Lit.
Heather
I’m a Scorpio. I am an Emerging Technologies Librarian (cool title, right?) at Middle Tennessee State University. I received my MLIS from LSU in 2008. I have never shushed anyone and I don’t wear comfortable shoes, however, I have been known to put my eyeglasses on a chain. I geek out over the Muppets, Joss Whedon, Glee, Neil Gaiman and Wonder Woman. I like to watch Indy Car Racing. Before I became a Librarian I held just about every other job imaginable. Seriously, many, many jobs. I have a 3 yr old son, so I often have crushed goldfish, used tissues, matchbox cars and wet wipes in my purse. I admit to reading paranormal romance and science fiction, but I don’t make Lovecraft references, ever. My two favorite books are Mama Day by Gloria Naylor and Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. My first degree is not, surprisingly, in English. I have a background in Sociology and Anthropology. and No, I couldn’t find any jobs using those degree either.
Amber
My name is Amber and I am 11 years old. I’ve always loved books - I’m a total bookworm! I read lots of different books - kids books, teen fiction, vampire novels, mysteries…I review books for a website called Chicklish run by author Luisa Plaja and I also have my own book review site, The Mile Long Bookshelf. My favourite authors are Cathy Cassidy, Gemma Malley, Luisa Plaja, Keris Stainton, Narinder Dhami, Chris Higgins, Lindsey Leavitt and Tamsyn Murray. One day I hope to be a published author. Books ROCK! :O)
Ria
I love reading. Always have, always will.I started my book blog in December 2009, and through it I have found some great friends [Amber, Iffath, Suzana], interviewed some amazing authors [Luisa Plaja, Sophie McKenzie, Cathy Cassidy], and found this blog! I’m 13, an Aries, and would like to be a lawyer or journalist when I’m older. Some of my other hobbies include: Swimming, shopping [New Look!], watching Glee, listening to Green Day, facebook, acting, playing the violin and spending time with my friends (:
Jean
Jean is a 15 year old girl who has lived in Scotland all her life (She also likes talking in third person). Apart from reading, her hobbies include drawing, a bit of writing, netball, finding awesome online shops and doing normal teenage stuff. Currently she is trying to get a job, starting to take photos and trying to make a non-scrap scrapbook. All pretty hard when you have other things to do! This is why Jean is a procrastinator
